Originally we all used to do word puzzles with pen and paper. To solve an anagram you would write the letters in a scatter pattern on a blank bit of paper and then try to work out the answer. The problem is that now all of our puzzles are on mobile devices, and we typically don't have pen and paper to hand. This app solves that problem.

 

In addition, the app improves upon pen and paper in several ways. Letters can easily be reshuffled. If you know where some of the letters go you can fix them in place and shuffle the rest. And you can easily restart multiple times without running out of blank paper.

Note that this app is a helper, not a solver. There are plenty of apps out there that take a list of letters and generate all known words, and you simply have to pick the right one. But if you like the challenge of working out the answer for yourself and think that word generators are really "cheating", then this app might be for you.

Subscription

  • You can use the app for free for two weeks to see if you like it

Helper Modes

  • The helper has three different modes

    • Workspace mode. Drag the bar down to open up the workspace. When you shuffle, any letters not already placed in boxes will be shuffled around in the workspace​

    • Single line mode. Drag the work space bar all the way up and the letters will be arranged in a single row below the boxes. When you shuffle, the letters will be shuffle around below any empty boxes

    • Box mode. Tap the Fill Boxes button and any empty boxes will be randomly assigned a letter, and the workspace is collapsed. If you shuffle, letters are shuffled within the boxes that don't have any fixed letters (see Fixing Letters below)


Letter dragging

  • You can drag letters into and out of the workspace, and also between boxes

  • If you drag a letter into a box which already contains a letter, the letters will be swapped.


Fixing Letters in Boxes

  • If a letter is in a box and you tap on it the box will turn black and the letter will become fixed.

  • You cannot drag letters into a box with a fixed letter, and fixed letters are not shuffled.
